It Depends

The real answer of/to (it depends..) the Universe, life and everything ;)
We’ve all said it, used it as cover to justify, argue, and defend while still retaining an out.
Then there’s the ultimate justification for the answer itself:

Isn’t everything contextual, subjective and dependant on a premise and factors (linear or otherwise) after all?
The really disturbing aspect in the answer to everything is that it is so vague and subjective in itself. It results in inequity, lack of clarity and uncertainty. An answer is surely supposed to do better than that?
Who decides what depends (and on what)? Why don’t we question it more? If we question it more will it result in an infinite loop of “it depend‘s”? Or does that depend too, on the original question (or something else)?

The law (legislative, executive, criminal, corporate, what have you) depends.. Well if it didn’t, law wouldn’t really be such a lucrative field and more importantly, we wouldn’t be getting our fill of Harvey Spectres and Mike Ross’ now would we?

One Side of the Coin:
The rule’s exception lays foundation for the argument –‘ It Depends’ and by extension – USPs, odd man out, outliers, differentiation, difference.
 In one word, it’s Diplomacy.

The Flip Side:
We create loopholes, we barricade against opposition, we don’t commit, put only one foot in (Not so sure footed in this case) and straddle the line that we have drawn ourselves! Defence, defiance, deterrents.
In one word, it’s Complacency.

We hope, we believe, we thrive on the ‘It Depends’ philosophy, we create and live the phenomena without certainty as to when our cover/protection is going to bite back.
It Depends is basically just perspective and is again subjective so there’s no right or wrong to it. That too depends.

It Depends is an answer, is a question, is a premise, is a conclusion, is an argument, is a supposition It Depends could be a condemnation or your redemption and more because as you’ve guessed, It Depends!

You’d think there are some universal “things” that govern us (socially, societal-ly, individually, ethically, morally)!! But it depends, I mean,

You could kill a person or not,
You could be punished for it (various degrees depending on...) or not,
You could be punished, whether guilty or not,
You could break a law or not,
You could stop smoking or not,
You could change or not,
You could fight for or not,
You could fight back or not,
You could, would, should, or not?

If I had to tell you I would say It Depends (on you!)
